1950s-1970s set of 4 faux ivory bangles. Minimalist.
Imitation ivory, bone-coloured hard plastic bangles in domed, saucer, and flat shapes. All are seamless with polish marks internally, and the largest has a hand-shaved finish.
The stack does not test positive for bakelite, but may be another vegetable plastic or organic resin; each bangle has some subtle inclusions, showing black flecks, threads of reddish brown, and tan marks, aimed, I believe to make them look more like ivory. These bracelets quite remind me of Elsa Peretti’s Modernist ivory cuffs design for Halston in the 70s.
Some surface scuffs to all, and some bubble marks to flat bangle, but the only notable flaw is a very small nibble to the edge of the saucer bangle; it should be noted that the larger domed bangle is very slightly lighter than the others.
Approximate measurements: saucer-shaped bangle 2 1/2” internal diameter, external diameter 3 3/8”, height 3/8”; flat, slightly asymmetrical bangle 2 1/2” internal diameter, external diameter 3 1/2”, height 3/16”; small domed bangle 2 5/8” internal diameter, external diameter 3”, height 3/8”; and large domed bangle 2 5/8” internal diameter, external diameter 3 1/4”, height 7/8”.
