1920s Antique ‘goldaleur’ checkerboard celluloid hair comb with green, brown, and cream accents

€29.00

This tiny, glittering hair ornament may look like it stepped out of the 1970s, but it is actually an Early Plastic finished with ‘Goldaleur’, a coating designed to look like goldstone, first used in 1920. From simitras-exquisite-things.com: “Trade names for such effects were Tinseloid, Goldstone or Goldaleur.”

The comb also has distinctive, undulating teeth, most commonly found in combs from the early 1900s through the 1920s.

Would make a subtle but  addition to a 1920s outfit, especially when the comb is seen to its best effect, at night.

In very good antique condition...the only flaw is a slight bend in one of the thick end teeth, but this does not effect the use of the comb whatsoever.

Measures: 2 7/8” x 1 3/8”.

The last three pictures show a 1920s cased comb with a similar goldaleur checkerboard effect (not included in this sale!), a period ad showing a 'Monster' comb to the back and smaller combs to the foreground, and a 1920s newspaper ad with a comb bearing wavy tines.
