1980s Black and blue velvet and taffeta dress with polka-dotted skirts. Medium. USA.
Prom or dance dress straight out of the 80s with velvet bodice, cap sleeves, drop waist, metallic-blue, iridescent, sharkskin taffeta skirts flocked in black polka dots, and pouffy, rustling crinoline.
Sadly, the oversized bow to the back of this dress was removed before it came into my possession, but in some ways, that makes it a little more versatile for today’s wear.
This dress has been worn and loved and has some flaws: as mentioned above, the back bow was removed and a snap attachment has been left behind (can be removed if desired) and there is some damage to the fabric alongside the zipper where the bow or sash was probably sewn (this has been roughly sewn up and is secure but would benefit from a more sensitive repair); there has also been a small repair to a very small spot at the back of the right shoulder. Overall, the dress is still in clean and structurally sound condition and displays well when worn.
