1970s handmade, lacquered, paper mache Kashmiri trinket boxes with handpainted cats in forest scenes. Made in India.
Two sweet little lacquered boxes:
lid painted with a pair of cats with eyes upturned to red sky, stalking the gold gnats that dance above them; edges of box are colourfully decorated, too; interior and base lacquered in black; lots of dings and some chips to the paint, but box is still very decorative and in good structural condition (see pics for full condition); approximate measurements 5.3 x 4.5 x 3.3cm, 23g.
lid painted with a smiling cat surrounded by trees, grasses, and flowers; edges of box are decorated with green and black grasses; inside and base lacquered in black; sticker to bottom reads “MADE IN INDIA”; lots of dings and some chips to the paint, but box is still very decorative and in good structural condition (see pics for full condition); approximate measurements 5.5 x 4.7 x 3.5cm, 24.3g.
