1940s/1950s handmade Native American, Grand Canyon painted wooden totem pole souvenir with rare original Fred Harvey PRICE TAG.
Older souvenir from the Grand Canyon area showing a rendition of a Native American totem pole handprinted in blue, pink, red, burgundy, yellow, white, and black.
To top of the base is printed “GRAND CANYON, ARIZONA”; and to the bottom, “GENUINE, INDIAN MADE”. Additionally, the bottom of the base has the very rare, somewhat battered, original price tag, which reads, “Fred Harvey, 63/7500, $1.00”; this tag looks 40s/50s to me, but could very well be older. Fred Harvey Trading Posts began selling Native souvenirs to tourists along Route 66, from 1901 and into the 1960s.
In very good condition with just a little wear to the paint and a small bit of grubbiness from storage; colours are still bright and fresh.
Approximate measurements: 6 1/2” tall, 5” wide, 1 3/4” depth (at base); weighs 24.9g.
