1940s-1950s Black silk purse with floral Point De Beauvais embroidery, metal frame, & marcasite clasp. England.
I believe this dainty purse is late-40s to early-50s, but it might be several decades earlier as this style was popular for some time. The exterior is black silk or rayon with vibrant French tambour work depicting a spray of leaves and flowers. The lining is cream moire and has a small, rouched pocket.
Gilt metal frame with black enamel, marcasite closure and goldtone chain.
Cloth label sewn into lining reads, “Salisbury Leather Specialist”, the name of a retailer in Leicester, but the purse was probably embroidered in France. Some pieces of metal flourish are missing to frame (see pics), but otherwise the frame and closure are in perfect order. Exterior fabric of purse is in excellent condition. Interior has some yellowing to silk a few tiny pink marks (see pics) but is otherwise in very good condition with no odours or tears.
(The last picture shows the handbag with a similar coin purse, also for sale.)
Measures: 12.5 x 18cm.
