1920s Egyptian Revival shoe buckles painted in pink and green
€140.00
Pair of large, pharaoh-themed buckles with yellow, violet, magenta, and turquoise ombré underglaze enamel, reminiscent of a scarab beetle. These pieces were probably made in the 20s, at the height of the Egyptian craze sparked by the discovery of King Tutankhamun's tomb in 1922.
The buckles look to be made from a heavyweight copper, and come with two vintage 1940s brass boxchains so that they can worn as pendants; they could also be used as dress, hat, or belt ornaments.
In good condition aside from some rubbing to the enamel on the pharaohs’ noses and some minor areas of missing enamel throughout (see pics).
Buckles measure approximately: 5 x 4cm. Chains measure: 40cm long (unclasped) x .15cm wide.
